Rehabilitation & Post Surgery
Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation refers to a person’s need for support to regain their personal lifestyle, following surgery, injury or illness.
Physio Footprint provides rapid access to skilled rehabilitation designed around your specific needs. We are careful to explain your condition to you and the process of rehabilitation so that you are confident to follow the programme at home and get the best results possible as quickly as your recovering body allows.
Rehabilitation following surgery
Physio Footprint offers physiotherapy and occupational therapy to help you mobilise and develop normal movement through effective muscle strengthening and restoration of functional movement. Surgery and hospital stays can knock the stuffing out of you and the physiotherapists at PhysioFootprint know how to progress your recuperation so that you regain stamina and independence at your own pace.
Many people have suffered for a long time before having a joint replacement, with wasting of muscles and development of ‘trick’ movements to avoid pain. These muscle need re-education and any trick movements un-learned in order to get the best recovery from your surgery. Our physiotherapists know how normal movements are performed and are able to identify weak muscles. By developing strength and co-ordination, your confidence in your body will improve and encourage further exercise.
Injury
An injury may be the result of a sports incident, a fall or a road traffic accident. Physio Footprint physiotherapists are equipped with skills and knowledge to assess and diagnose injuries and offer the best solutions for rapid recovery and restoration to fitness. Our physiotherapists use up to date research and techniques to ensure your treatment meets your needs. Our sports physiotherapist will work to replicate your sport activity in your rehabilitation to ensure you are fit when you return to your sport.
Treatment for whiplash associated disorders is available at Physio Footprint and we recommend early physiotherapy for advice and self-management education. Most whiplash injuries recover similar to any other sprain, and rapid access to physiotherapy has been shown to help these conditions settle quickly and let you get back to your life.
Need to be Fit to Work?
We know that work is good for you and that going off sick is not always the best option for you or your employer. The physiotherapists at Physio Footprint always take your work activities into account when planning your treatments and we can discuss with you whether going off is actually your best option. We can contact your GP, Employer or Human Resources department if you wish, to describe how you can stay at work with some support. Most employers don’t want to lose skilled workers, so it is worth looking at adjusted working conditions to help you use work as part of your rehabilitation.
Physiotherapy will provide exercise and walking re-education in your home, our purpose designed clinic or in a pool. The exercise programme will be agreed with you, for you to continue exercising between sessions and for you to say what activities you want to get back to. We can also come out to work places, to undertake Work Place Assessments and reports.
Occupational therapy will provide expertise in advice to make your home easier to use. Problem solving will require you to explain or demonstrate your daily activities and the occupational therapist will be able to suggest simple options to make the jobs easier for you.
